She is the author of two early chapter book series, the Esme! books, featuring art by #1 New York Times Bestselling illustrator Marissa Valdez, and Seashell Key, with illustrations by SCBWI Emerging Voice Lynnor Bontigao. Lourdes currently resides in South Florida.

Lourdes Heuer is the author of nearly a dozen children's books, including board books, picture books, and chapter books. She is also a poet, translator, and college professor. Her debut picture book On this Airplane, illustrated by Pura Belpré Award Honoree Sara Palacios, was selected in 2023 for Dolly Parton's Imagination Library and was named a Bank Street College Best Children's Book of the Year and a Cooperative Children's Book Center Choice Book. The first book in the Esme! early chapter book series, Esme's Birthday Conga Line, with art by #1 New York Times Bestselling illustrator Marissa Valdez, was named a 2022 Chicago Public Library Best Fiction Book for Younger Readers and one of Evanston Public Library's 101 Great Books for Kids of 2022.
The daughter of Cuban exiles, Lourdes was born in Spain but immigrated to the United States when she was 8. She lives in South Florida with her husband, son, and many dogs.
She holds an MFA in Writing from the Vermont College of Fine Arts and is an Associate Professor of English at Broward College.
